What is the difference between a Hobby Artist and a Professional Artist?

I have read a number of articles now, way too many to list them all, but overall is a small list that provides some good resources for developing and implementing your business if you wish to do so.
I will name the sites I've been on to obtain this information 1st but before I continue with my own views and experience on the subject.
Here are the listed sites I am referencing, you may or may not want to check them out, but in case you do here is the list:
Artsy Shark
Maria Brophy
Owen Garrett

I have a lot of Professional and Hobby Artists that are inspired by what I do & are asking me advice about my work so I decided to create this blog to further expand your knowledge so you can have a clear path ahead and propel yourself to the top with your Art if that is what you wish. What has also helped me is my 14 years worth of experience in the Retail Industry and completing a Cert:4 in Small Business Management.

This could be you in the beginning stages of your passion for Art, this I believe is what we experience when we are starting out or undecided which path to take:

Hobby/Lesiure Artist

• A hobby Artist paints/draws, etc for leisure, for family, friends and charity.
• A hobby Artist is not concerned about the dollar value of work because the passion & love over-rides all avenues.
• It is more important at this stage to get the work out in the form of painting or drawing etc as an emotional expression to enable for some understanding to come to the Artist, because this will allow for some more direction to come.
• A hobby Artist does not have practical goals.
• A hobby Artist works casual or part-time at their craft or when there is time in between their other full-time work or tasks.
• A hobby Artist has a back up plan.

Professional Artist

• A Professional Artist works on a body of work over many years.
• A Professional Artist is also concerned about selling the work to make a living.
• A professional Artist is driven by passion, determination and set targeted goals that have been designed to develop the business over a period of time with careful planning.
• A Professional Artist works on their targeted goals everyday.
• A Professional Artist is in it for the long run.
• A Professional Artist works full-time and does not work a 2nd job, its a make or break situation, through their dedication and persistence.
• A Professional Artist has made many psychial, emotional & mental shifts in their life to enable them to work full-time, their is no such thing as a back-up plan because they understand that every piece of work represents an emotional part of themselves and this fuels their inspiration to continue. And because denying yourself of this, is denying a part of yourself. Without this confrontation of self, the Artist is at odds with themselves and their work. It is a good practise to confront yourself and others in your work regularly because this is how you will engage your audience and develop works that bring meaning into peoples lives. Life would be very boring if you didn't. And challenging yourself creates inspiration for yourself which then overflows onto others.

I hope this article provides you with some avenues and ideas into where you would like to take your work and how important it becomes in your life as either a Hobby Artist or Professional Artist.

The decision & responsibility is yours and with the right preparation such as this, it makes choosing the right path much easier.

Pink Lotus Flower by Mirree

Lotus Flower ~ Higher Consciousness

Sometimes in life we really need to step outside of our comfort zone in order to become a better person, we don't really know where it will lead us but I think the most important thing is trust. And sometimes trusting ourselves is a big thing so put your trust in your higher consciousness the one most connected to God or whatever you want to call it. Maybe what we thought was outside of ourselves is in actual fact buried deep within to uncover.

Hope your day was brighter with the Pink Lotus Flower !

Butterfly Letting Go by Mirree

Butterfly Release is about the letting go of someone or something from your life that is no longer serving your highest good. Sometimes in order to move forward onto better and much brighter things, we need to take the time to acknowledge the letting go process of that particular person or thing in our life that we feel has been weighing us down.

It maybe a time of great sadness that we are letting go of or a joy that we need to allow to come back into our lives from this situation and that is perfectly fine.
Just allow this process to unfold naturally, allowing it to bring in greater meaning & awareness into your life. You will come out far stronger & grounded from the recognition of this experience, bringing you healing. So allow Spirit of the Butterfly into your world to heal you.

Hope your day was releasing with Butterfly Spirit !

Day & Night Owl Dreamings by Mirree

Who wants to Owl Dream & are you a Day or Night Owl?
the many Owl Paintings Ive done over years and this is not even all of them.
Can you see your Owl there?
Every Sunday I will be going into depth into 1 animal, the Owl is this weekend and the Dragonfly will be next.

DAY & NIGHT OWL ~ HIDDEN SIGNS & MESSAGES
You maybe wondering about the meaning behind "Day Owl" (my most popular painting to date) well many years ago about 2009 actually I wanted to find more out about seeing Owls in the daylight hours & why on numerous occasions I was seeing them and what do they mean. Well after speaking to an Elder I was informed that the Owl can bring a message to the family that is related to death. This warning was for me at the time of my Nan's passing. But I also took that as a message from within & saw that the "Daylight Owl" meant we were bringing to light something that is hidden from view and the Night Owl is still waiting to be understood, delving deeper The Owl captures messages that remain hidden & far from view. Are you taking the opportunity to listen to the deepest part of your soul? Is there anything that you need to release from your life? Take some time out to listen deeply to those subtle messages that the Owl is bringing us today; this will re-align you to the mysteries of your soul path. It is an important time to hear your inner voice, trust and allow the hidden signs to come through and move forward with your newfound knowledge with confidence.

NEGATIVE: Darkness, Ignorance, Stagnant
POSITIVE: Release, Truth, Soul Purpose

This is what these small paintings can provide you that contain Owl, depending on their individual message. Meditation allows you to tap into the healing it will provide you, also through quiet spiritual contemplation.
Hope your day was brighter with the Owl giving you the Messages you require !

Wren Dreamings by Mirree

Who wants to Wren Dream & do you know which Wren you are?
Every Sunday I will be going into depth into 1 animal, the Wren is this weekend and the Owl will be next.

SUPERB WREN ~ HIGH VIBRATIONS

The Wren has a distinct high pitched call that they use as their main communication and it through the sound of this call that our vibration is lifted when we take the time to venture outside in nature. Wrens are usually found in most places in a variety of dense & domestic gardens. So allow your heart to feel the vibration through the sounds & colours within nature. Love is the purest and most highest vibration that heals, up-lifting your soul. Allow nature to up-lift you by seeking safe refuge as your heart listens to the sounds, calling you home to your very own personal & spiritual sanctuary, this resides deep within the heart that burns within you. Can you hear it's call?

POSITIVE: Divine Love, Peace, Spiritual Home

Platypus Dreamings by Mirree

Who wants to Platypus Dream & do you know which Platypus you are?

The New Moon is nearly upon us and an excellent time to take into action the advice from Platypus, follow your instincts & you'll know what to do.
Every Sunday I will be going into depth into 1 animal, beginning with the Butterflies last weekend, featuring the Platypus this weekend and the Wren next weekend.

PLATYPUS ~ SPIRIT CLEANSING/CEREMONY

Because the Platypus is so closely linked to the Life Cycle, it is a beautiful & loving creature that has dominion over the water and mud elements, due to it's masterful ability to forage for food with it's powerful duck like bill. It finds everything it requires for continual nourishment, being one of the few venous mammals, which has a small defensive mechanism on the males ankle designed to kill small animals & causing severe harm to humans.

So with all this in mind, it is a very similar to our own lives in that, we need to retreat when we feel our energy is low or we feel weak or threatened. This is our bodies natural communication ability telling us that something is not right and we need to take the time out in order to understand what it it that is causing us to feel this drain.

So taking advantage of the cycles of the moon is an ideal time to maximise our natural ability to know the answers & letting go for spiritual release.
Nature is the best antidote for revealing pressure, tension, depression & stress. So allow the Platypus to help you find your way back to yourself in nature and let the moonlight guide you. Cleanse your spiritual energy by spending sometime near water this weekend to rejuvenate, cleanse and connect with your spirit. Use whatever plants and herbs to also assist in your cleansing & this will ideally bring to light your current challenge to solve.

This is what these small paintings can provide you that contain Platypus, depending on their individual message. Meditation allows you to tap into the healing it will provide you, also through quiet spiritual contemplation.

Hope your day was brighter with Platypus protector that is awaiting for you to uncover !

Animal Totems by Mirree

Do you know which is your Animal Totem?
Would you like to know the Animal that will help you on your Spiritual Journey through life?

(Pictured below are 16 of the 22 Australian Animal Totems completed so far that contain their simple names, there will be 44 altogether, then the International Animals will be followed)

Here is a bit about what Mirree specialises in painting & a bit about the Totem System which is very complex, I have only touched on a few in Australian Aboriginal Culture.

Mirree was born in the regional town of Dubbo, in the Central West of NSW Australia, Dubbo means red dirt in the Wiradjuri language. Dubbo’s red dirt, a symbol of the country in which Mirree was born and to which she is spiritually connected, inspired the artist to undertake the creation of a series of 44 Animal Dreaming Paintings, these 1 meter paintings depict Aboriginal animal totems.

There are many flora and fauna totems that are significant to Aboriginal Australians. The totem system is complex and powerful, signifying the close relationships a person has to other individuals, their group or tribe and to a particular ancestral figure, as embodied by a specific animal or plant. There are individual and clan totems.

Clan totems are shared by tribal groups and are passed down through common female or male kin lines. Affiliation with these totems indicates membership in the clan, strong ties to territorial & mythological stories & totems that warn of any impeding danger. Individual totems are not inherited from family members but signify a person’s special relationship to a particular animal or plant.

Mirree specializes in painting individual Animal totems, through a painting for someone & asking the relevant questions she is able to understand the Animal Totem that is watching over you. Sometimes we can have a main one and others come and go throughout different stages of life. But knowing your main one helps you understand your gifts, leading you to your life purpose.

Would you like your very own personal Animal Totem, starting from $129, there is much knowledge to learn for you.

Sacred Birthing Place by Mirree

This story is about a Sacred Birthing site that got destroyed near my fathers country out of careless and mistreatment. So this dreaming is about the healing & the creation of bringing something into reality. Focusing on what can be changed rather than what was destroyed replaces it with what will always be there, remaining in the heart of the people who remember. Hope your day was brighter with this Sacred ceremony.

Movement of the Rainbow Serpent by Mirree

*The Story of its Movement - the Rainbow Serpent*

There lies an invisible force within nature, Creative, Healing & Pure, it travels through the land healing and rejuvenating the landscapes.

You cannot see it's colors as it is made of Clear, Pure light, but you can see its movement as it blends and melds within the landscape of its movement.

It's presence greatly resembles the healing rays of the sun as it effects all of life's creatures, the mountains, earth & river/waterway systems.

This artwork is a journey of creation, the process of Earths cycles, the rolling rhythms as it pulsates one with the heart of Mother Earth.

Aligning ourselves to these rhythms allows a process of deep healing to unravel within us, as we allow ourselves to surrender to the powerful healing energy of its movement within Mother Earth.

Hope your day was brighter with the Rainbow Serpent.

Sacred Healing Waters by Mirree

"Sacred Healing Waters"

Contemporary Aboriginal Art. This Artwork is about the waters that surround the areas of the hills where I use to live in the Hawkesbury area of NSW in Australia.

There are many sacred sites and sites throughout Australia that sacred healing water reside in.
This represents the flow of healing water of life nourishing all plant life.

Sacred Water is water that has not been touched by sunlight and considered to be very Sacred amongst Aboriginal people. Waters such as these were often used for women's ceremonies and sacred initiations amongst people in the tribe. Although now many have been impacted due to economical development, these sites are to remain as they have been found because they renew the energy and life force of the area and nourish many animals, wildlife & plant life.

My only wish is that these areas throughout Australia become protected so that they may continue to nourish our spirits and the many wildlife and plants that they surround, because they are truly a treasure to experience in their most sacredness and deserve our most considered attention and care.
